Adenauer, Konrad
► (1876-1967) Político alemán. En 1917 fue elegido alcalde de Colonia. Se opuso a la ascensión política de los nazis, que en 1933 le destituyeron y en 1944 le confinaron en un campo de concentración. Fue ministro de Asuntos Exteriores en 1951-55. Dedicó sus esfuerzos a la reconstrucción económica de su país y a la reconciliación con Francia (pacto de cooperación, 1963), Gran Bretaña y E.U.A.

Estadista alemán, primer canciller de la República Federal de Alemania (Alemania Occidental). Elegido al ayuntamiento de Colonia (1906), se convirtió en alcalde de la ciudad (1917–33). Fue elegido al Staatsrat (consejo de Estado) de Prusia en 1920, del que llegó a ser presidente (1928–33). Perdió sus cargos cuando los nazis llegaron al poder y en 1944 fue enviado a un campo de concentración. En las postrimerías de la segunda guerra mundial, jugó un importante papel en la formación de la Unión Demócrata Cristiana (CDU). Como canciller a contar de 1949, Adenauer insistió en el principio del individualismo sometido al imperio de la ley. Su temor a la expansión soviética lo convirtió en un firme partidario de la OTAN. Trabajó arduamente para reconciliar a Alemania con sus antiguos enemigos, especialmente Francia. Dimitió en 1963.
